1 Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CloudFormation (the "Service", "Platform", or "Application"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms in their entirety, you must not access or use the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", or "your") and CloudFormation ("we", "us", or "our"). Your continued use of the Service following any modification to these Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.

Important: CloudFormation is an infrastructure design and code-generation tool. It does not provision, manage, or control your cloud resources. Any infrastructure you deploy using generated code is your sole responsibility.

2 Service Description

CloudFormation is a browser-based, multi-cloud infrastructure design tool that enables users to:

  • Visually design cloud infrastructure using a drag-and-drop canvas
  • Generate Terraform HCL configuration code for AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, VMware, Kubernetes, and Alibaba Cloud
  • Export CI/CD pipeline definitions, policy-as-code rules, and data pipeline configurations
  • Perform automated security scanning and cost estimation against canvas designs
  • Manage multi-environment configurations through the Configuration as Code module

The Service generates code and configuration files as outputs. We do not execute, deploy, or manage any infrastructure on your behalf. All generated Terraform code must be reviewed, validated, and applied by qualified personnel using appropriate tooling.

3 License to Use

3.1 Grant of License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal or internal business purposes.

3.2 Generated Code

All Terraform code, pipeline definitions, policy files, and other outputs generated by the Service based on your designs are owned by you. We claim no intellectual property rights over code generated from your canvas designs. You may use, modify, distribute, and deploy generated code without restriction.

3.3 Restrictions

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, create derivative works of, or distribute the Service itself (the application code)
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Sell, resell, or sublicense access to the Service without written permission
  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or these Terms
  • Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service in ways that impose unreasonable load
  • Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices

4 Account Responsibilities

If you access the Service with administrator credentials or deploy it for your organization, you are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of admin credentials and access controls
  • All activity occurring under your account or deployment
  • Ensuring that all users of your deployment comply with these Terms
  • Promptly notifying us of any unauthorized use or security breach
  • Keeping your deployment updated and applying security patches

5 Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Design infrastructure intended to facilitate illegal activities
  • Generate code intended to deploy infrastructure for malicious purposes, including botnets, cryptomining without authorization, or DDoS infrastructure
  • Circumvent security controls or access restrictions of cloud providers
  • Violate the terms of service of AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, VMware, Alibaba Cloud, or any other provider
  • Store sensitive credentials, private keys, or personal data in canvas designs that are shared publicly
  • Attempt to compromise the security, integrity, or availability of the Service
Cloud Provider Terms: Generated Terraform code interacts with third-party cloud APIs. You are independently responsible for complying with each cloud provider's acceptable use policies, terms of service, and applicable regulations.

6 Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, visual elements, component library, algorithms, documentation, and underlying technology, is owned by CloudFormation and protected by intellectual property laws. The CloudFormation name, logo, and branding are our proprietary marks.

6.2 Your Content

Your canvas designs, configurations, and architecture diagrams created using the Service remain your property. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process and temporarily store your designs solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

6.3 Open Source

Portions of the Service may incorporate open-source components. Use of such components is governed by their respective licenses, which are available upon request.

7 Your Infrastructure Data

CloudFormation processes your infrastructure designs locally in your browser. Canvas designs saved using the auto-save feature are stored in your browser's localStorage and are not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly use a sharing or export feature.

We strongly advise that you:

  • Never enter real credentials, API keys, or passwords into canvas property fields
  • Use variable references (e.g., var.db_password) instead of actual secret values
  • Review all generated code before committing it to version control
  • Treat generated terraform.tfvars files as sensitive and add them to .gitignore

8 Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with or references third-party services including cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM, Oracle, VMware, Alibaba), the Terraform Registry, GitHub, and others. These integrations are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or terms of any third-party service.

Links to third-party documentation, registries, or tools do not constitute our endorsement of those services.

9 Disclaimers and Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement of third-party rights
  • Accuracy or completeness of generated code
  • Correctness of cost estimates or security scan results
  • Compliance of generated code with any specific regulatory standard
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
Code Review Required: Generated Terraform code is a starting point and must be reviewed by a qualified cloud architect or DevOps engineer before deployment to any environment, especially production. Cost estimates are approximations only.

10 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL CLOUDFORMATION BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Cloud infrastructure costs incurred from deploying generated code
  • Data loss or corruption resulting from infrastructure deployments
  • Security breaches or unauthorized access to cloud resources
  • Business interruption or loss of revenue
  • Errors in generated code, cost estimates, or security scan results

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU FOR THE SERVICE IN THE PRECEDING TWELVE MONTHS OR (B) USD $100.

11 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CloudFormation and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, penalties, losses, costs, and expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Service or generated code
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights or applicable laws
  • Any infrastructure you deploy using generated code

12 Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be indicated by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any modification constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

13 Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
